Paragraph - Caretaker Government |
The caretaker government is an interim
government for holding a free, fair, and credible election in our country. It
is a new idea to the political history of Bangladesh. The main task of the
caretaker government is to arrange a free and fair election across the country and
to keep the law and order situation under control. The caretaker government
takes the responsibility of the country after the end of the ruling period of a
politically elected government and hand over the responsibilities after the
election to the newly elected government. All the persons of the caretaker government
are non-political and neutral. The system of caretaker government was
established by the 13th amendment of the constitution. The chief advisor is the
chief executive of the caretaker government. He must have to be neutral and the
retired Chief Justice of Supreme Court. The first caretaker government in
Bangladesh was formed in 1996. Our national parliamentary elections of 1996,
2001, and 2008 were held under the caretaker governments. However, the concept
of caretaker government is dead now as the present government has cancelled the
system of caretaker government through necessary constitutional amendments in
the parliament. The idea of caretaker government was a controversial concept. As
it was a non-elected government, it had no accountability to the people. From
now, all elections in Bangladesh will be held under the supervision of the ruling
government, which seems more democratic, reliable, and praiseworthy. The decision
of the present government is being praised by most of the people of our country
as well as foreign countries.
