Pollution
in Dhaka City
Hasan
Mahmud, Dhaka, 05 April: Pollution has been a great problem in Dhaka city.
Different kinds of pollution such as air pollution, water pollution, sound
pollution, odour pollution have become very acute in this city. Population
explosion, unplanned industrialization, and urbanization are mainly responsible
for this pollution.
Water
pollution is creating different types of waterborne diseases. It is also
creating scarcity of drinking water. On the other hand, air pollution has
become very serious here nowadays. Besides creating air borne diseases, it is
suffocating us. A lot of vehicles plying on the roads in Dhaka city are emitting
black smoke full of carbon monoxide, lead, and other unburned chemical
particles of petrol and diesel.
Some
manufacturing industries like rubber, chemical, steel are located in Tejgaon
Industrial Area, the central part of Dhaka city. As a result, the evening
becomes dark due to smoke and dust that make a thick layer of smoke. In spite
of taking various measures to stop pollution in the city, the pollution level in
Dhaka City is still higher than that of any other Asian city.
It is
unfortunate but true that we do not have sufficient lakes in the city to
control environmental pollution. People should be made aware of adverse effects
of pollution in Dhaka city so that they can cooperate with the government to
make Dhaka city clean, pollution free and inhabitable.
