Dear Ritu,
I received your
letter yesterday. You wanted to know many things about our friends in Dhaka.
Dhaka is the capital of Bangladesh. Once it was the capital of undivided Bengal
in period emperor Jahangir. It stands on the Buriganga. I know, you visited Dhaka
about ten years ago. If you come here now, you will see a lot of changes here.
Many roads and
ways have been constructed here. Many large and tall buildings have been built but
many tanks and ponds that you saw in the heart of city have disappeared. Many installations
have been made on the lakes and ponds. As a result, the beauty of the capital is
no more seen here. Thousands of buses, minibuses, trucks and other kinds of
vehicles run in the streets and pollute the air.
The horns of
these vehicles also cause sound pollution. There are many large factories and
industries which pollute water and air throwing poisonous chemicals and waste
products. Human wastes and bad drainage system contaminate water regularly. Fishes
are not found now in the Buriganga. People in Dhaka city are attacked with
fatal diseases.
All these are the
consequences of rapid growth of population. No more today.
Sincerely
yours,
Sumi.
