Essay - My First Day at College

My first day at college is the most memorable day in my life. The day was so thrilling and memorable that I can still remember it clearly. It opened before me a new horizon of life. I was cherishing the day for a long time as I heard many things about college life from my college going elder brothers and sisters. At last the long cherished day came to my life in the month of August, 2013. I reached the college by rickshaw early in the morning. I entered the college campus with curiosity and found that most of the faces were unknown to me. I was walking here and there until I met one of my school friends luckily.

He advised me to take down the routine from the notice board. I followed his advice and took down the routine. It was the first thing that I did on my first day at college. I experienced that the system in the college was different from what I was accustomed to in the school. There my first surprise came when I found that I would have to change my classroom after every period. I also did not know that roll-call was done in each period.

When the bell rang for the first period, I entered the fixed classroom. I found many students sitting there. After a while, a well dressed handsome gentleman entered the classroom. He was the professor of English. He spoke in a very decent and dramatic way with simple and clear English. I listened to his lecture with rapt attention. In the second period we had the Professor of Bengali who gave an introductory lecture on Bengali literature. I also attended more two classes on that day. All the classes were very enjoyable. I was fascinated by the learned and lucid lectures of the teachers.

The classes being over, my friend took me to the college canteen. We took snacks there and felt like being great friends. From there we went to the college common room where I skipped over the newspaper headlines and my friend played a game of ping pong with other students. Then we went to the library building. I entered the spacious reading room with curiosity. I saw there were many students engrossed in study. I felt highly tempted to sit with them but I had no library card.

However, since I had no more class on that day, I came straight home with a strange thrill of pride and pleasure. The memory of my first day at college will remain fresh in my mind forever.
