Paragraph - The 21st February |
The
21st February is a memorable day in our national life. The day bears the memory
of the great 'language Movement' which was at the root of our liberation war. In
1947, Pakistan was established but soon we understood that we did not have
equal share with the other citizens of Pakistan. A clear indication of this was
given in the efforts to make Urdu the only 'State Language' of Pakistan. The
Bengalis opposed it from the very beginning. On the 21st February 1952, the
police fired on a demonstration in favour of Bangla as one of the State Languages
of Pakistan. A number of patriotic sons of the then Bengal, namely Rafiq, Abul
Barkat, Salam, and Jabbar laid down their lives. Since then, it acts as a symbol
of our national inspiration. The day is observed with great respect and
enthusiasm. Innumerable processions are brought out early in the morning and
they end up at the 'Sahid Minar'. Banners and posters are also displayed on
this day. Meetings, seminars, symposiums, and cultural ceremonies are also held
throughout the country. This day is not merely a day of ceremonies. It reminds
us of our history, cultural heritage, and national identity. It also gives us a
direction to our national life. Now, it has been declared the 'International
Mother Language Day'. The world has approved of our sacrifice and national
issue. It is a great achievement for our country and the nation. We are really
proud of this day.
