Zafi: Good morning.

Librarian: Good morning. How can I help you?

Zafi: I want to have a library card.

Librarian: What class do you read in?

Zafi: I am a first year student of science group.

Librarian: Do you have your identity card?

Zafi: Yes, here it is.

Librarian: Okay. Please fill in the form.

Zafi: I have already filled in a form. Here it is, please.

Librarian: Thank you. Please take your card. I hope you will maintain all rules and regulations on taking books from the library.

Zafi: Yes, of course. How many books can I borrow at a time?

Librarian: You can borrow three books at a time.

Zafi: Good. And how long can I keep a book with me? 

Librarian: You can keep a book with you up to maximum two weeks.

Zafi: Thank you for helping me.

Zafi: Hello Zarif! How are you?

Zarif: I am fine. What about you?

Zafi: I am fine too. But I am worried about the terrible increase of acid throwing incidence across the country.

Zarif: Yes, it has become a great menace in our country. I am also terribly concerned about it.

Zafi: I can't imagine how people can become so barbarous and throw acid on their fellow human beings.  

Zarif: And you might have noticed that it has entered into every stratum of the society.

Zafi: What a dangerous decay of human values! Mostly the young girls are victims of acid throwing.

Zarif: You are right. In most cases a depraved young man throws acid at a young girl when she refuses to love. How cruel they are!

Zafi: Yes. And the unfortunate victim lingers in anguish. It takes a long time to recover if she does not die. The damage is incurable.

Zarif: Right. The affected parts of the body become disfigured forever. In most cases these youths are one-sided lovers and dowry-hunter husbands.

Zafi: There are also cases where personal enmity or disputes are the causes of acid throwing.

Zarif: Yes. But in any case, we can't sit idle. We have to do something to stop it.

Zafi: Exactly! We should join the social activists to create public awareness against this barbarity.

Zarif: Yes, we should make the criminals understand that if anyone is found in such heinous acts, he would be awarded exemplary punishment.

Zafi: Exactly! We should start a campaign soon. Let's sit together tomorrow and draw up a road map. Good bye now.

Zarif: I agree. Thank you.

Zafi: Hello Zarif! How are you?

Zarif: I am fine. What about you?

Zafi: I am fine too. I am happy that we have met together after many years.

Zarif: Yes, a long time have passed. Why are you in this railway station?

Zafi: I am going to Sylhet.

Zarif: Sylhet! I knew that your house is in Comilla.

Zafi: You are absolutely right. I am now working as a doctor in a hospital there. What's the matter about you?

Zarif: I am going to Chittagong.

Zafi: Five years ago I heard from Shimu that you with your family lived in Khulna.

Zarif: You are correct. Recently, I have been transferred from Khulna to Chittagong.

Zafi: Oh, I see. Are you still working as a college lecturer?

Zarif: Yes, I am now working in Chittagong City College.

Zafi: Have you got married?

Zarif: Yes, I have married two years ago. But what about your marriage?

Zafi: Yes, I have married four years ago. My husband is an engineer working in Sylhet. My train has come. I must be off now. Thank you.

Dialogue Between Two Friends on Visiting Flood Affected Area

Zafi: Hello Zarif! How are you?

Zarif: I am so so. What about you?

Zafi: I am fine. But what is the problem? What are you thinking of?

Zarif: I am thinking of the untold miseries of the flood affected people in our area.

Zafi: Oh, I see! The over-flowing water has really caused untold miseries. Villages after villages have been submerged.

Zarif: You might have noticed that a vast tract of land looks like a sheet of water. People had to desert the villages. Thousands are already rendered homeless.

Zafi: Yes, they have been shifted to emergency flood-centers. Relief materials are scanty. Some of them have already died.  

Zarif: It is terribly shocking. The condition of domestic animals beggar description. They do not have flood-shelters and relief camps.

Zafi: Yes, I have seen many corpses and carcasses flowing down the streams of water. There is another negative effect of it. They are seriously polluting water.

Zarif: Exactly! Besides, the stench that comes out of them is very harmful to the environment. Diseases have started breaking out.

Zafi: Yes, the incidence of cholera, diarrhea, typhoid, fever and flu has greatly increased recently. Medical facilities are quite inadequate to combat the battle.

Zarif: Exactly, this water has worked out a ghastly havoc. A lot of houses have toppled down, and household properties have been washed away.

Zafi: Besides, standing crops have been destroyed. People have a black and blank future.

Zarif: Exactly! I can't understand what they would get to do even if they can return home safe after flood. I can no more think. Let's go to the relief camp and work as volunteers.

Zafi: Excellent idea! Let's join and do our mite to relieve the distress of the people. Thank you for such a nice decision.
